Róisín Murphy releases fifth album to critical acclaim
Irish singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy released her fifth album “Róisín Machine” in October on Skint Records/BMG. Her new album is full of disco and elctro-pop.
Born in County Wicklow, Ireland – Róisín moved to Sheffield at 19 and began immersing herself in the club scene. In the 90’s Róisín emerged as a member of the band Moloko alongside Mark Brydon. Moloko went onto have success with “The Time is Now”, “Familiar Feeling” and “Sing It Back”.
When Moloko split up in 2003 - Róisín embarked on a solo career and released her debut album “Ruby Blue” in 2005 (written and produced with Matthew Herbert) to critical praise. Her second solo album “Overpowered” was released on EMI Records in 2007. “Overpowered” featured remixes by Seamus Haji and Kris Menace. The second single from the album “Let Me Know” was a collaboration with Andy Cato from Groove Armada.
Róisín released “Hairless Toys” in 2015 that was subsequently nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. In 2016 she followed this up with her fourth solo album “Take Her Up to Monto”.
